Memphis, TN. October 17th, 2021: Forbush Performance clinched the SRO TCA class championship and Caleb Bacon secured first place in the driver’s championship at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this past weekend.

The 2021 season got underway at Sonoma Raceway but it was at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas when the team had its first wins in TCA in 2021 with Caleb Bacon sweeping the whole weekend winning races 1 and 2. With Caleb now on top of the drivers championship, the team went to Virginia International Raceway where Caleb and Luke each scored race wins. Building off of this momentum, the team continued to develop and tune the Hyundai Veloster N Turbo TCA cars to remain at the front of the field and it paid off.

“We started the second half of the season in a great spot for the championship,” said Matt Forbush, team owner. “Then starting at Road America we started to see some adversity with Caleb cutting down a tire on the last lap while running P3.”

At Watkins Glen in very questionable weather conditions, the lead sponsor cars of CMR Roofing and Construction and zignyl did not finish outside of the podium with Caleb winning race 2 demonstrating the off-track effort to put these cars up front. Not only that, but the team in the midst of battling for a championship in TCA had to make some serious repairs to the Supra GT4 car after an incident in damp conditions on the back straight. The following rounds were at Historic Sebring and Luke Rumburg exhibited his competitiveness on track by winning race 1 and achieving second in race 2 amidst Caleb having a DNF in race 2 due to  mechanical failures.

“From there it got worse, by the time we got to Sebring, Caleb had mechanical failures in both races,” said Matt Forbush. “We knew we had the pace based on Luke’s strong results but just had a streak of bad luck.”

After making extensive repairs to the Supra, and mechanical issues on Caleb’s car, the team put in several all-nighters in the two weeks ahead of Indy and the championship still had not yet been decided.

It all came down to the final two races at the revered Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“Going into Indy, we knew there was no more room for error if we were going to win the championship,” said Matt Forbush. “ The team did an amazing job going through and prepping the cars to set both Caleb and Luke up for success.  From there it was all on the drivers to make it happen and they did just that.  Caleb did a fantastic job in Race 1 dealing with some electrical issues at the start and working his way back through the field to get every valuable point he could.  For the final race you could tell Caleb was on point, he drove an amazing race under tremendous pressure to wrap it up.  No one deserves this championship more than Caleb and I’m just so happy he was able to bring it home.”

Going into the weekend, Caleb Bacon had a slim championship points advantage over teammate Luke Rumburg and the team leading in the championship coming out of rounds 11 and 12 at Sebring. Going into race 2, Caleb led the championship and Luke was second and the drivers knew what they had to do. The pair ran 1-2 for the majority of the race with two full course cautions interrupting the race. As the race came down to the final 10 minutes, one of the Mini Coopers in the field put on a late charge for the victory, Luke and Caleb both knew a championship would be lost if they threw it away battling for 1st and wisely avoided any silly mistakes. Caleb and Luke crossed the bricks 2nd and 3rd respectively, finishing off a season-long effort from the team, driver, CMR and zignyl for the championship. Caleb Bacon is the 2021 TC America TCA champion and Luke Rumburg the runner up in the championship.

“Luke had a super impressive season as well,” said Matt Forbush. “To not have even entered the first two rounds at Sonoma and fight back to be right there in the mix and ultimately finish second in the championship speaks for itself.”

With these efforts, Caleb and Luke helped lead the effort in securing the team their (fact check) first team championship in their short history. This season saw a remarkable 16 podium places achieved across the season for the team. This result marks the final time the team will be competing in a TCA competition. Matt Forbush looks back on the season and the successful run by the drivers.

“They are both amazing drivers with very bright futures and I am just proud that Forbush Performance could be a part of helping launch their professional careers with all of the success we had together this season.”

“I am so happy to be able to get this win for myself but more importantly the team,” said Caleb Bacon. “Everybody under the banner of Forbush Performance put in work and played a part in me achieving this goal. I am excited as a driver and am extremely proud to have done it with this team.”
