Forbush Performance to Field Two Toyota Supra GT4’s in IMSA for 2022 Season

News

Memphis, TN. October 21, 2021: Forbush Performance will field two Toyota Supra GT4 race cars in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Sport Challenge series in 2022.

Toyota Gazoo Racing launched the Supra GT4 worldwide in 2020 and Forbush Performance is one of only three race teams in North America to be running the car. With more teams moving to the Supra next year, Forbush Performance will have more experience with the platform. After racing a one-car program in 2021, team owner Matt Forbush is expanding his team’s race program with two cars for the 2022 IMSA season.

As part of this announcement, Forbush Performance pro driver Tom Long will expand his current driver coach and development role with the team to become the lead pro driver in one of the GT4 cars. Many will know Tom from his factory driving pedigree and now Tom will be spearheading Forbush Performance’s fight for the GS championship in 2022

With this announcement, the team reinforces its commitment to the Supra and its platform as the best path for the team to the front of the field. After a year of incredible progress the team is feeling confident in developing the car into a championship contender.

“We have learned a lot about this car throughout the course of the 2021 season,” said Matt Forbush. “We have found a great crew and exceptional engineers who are making great strides with the performance each time we get our hands on it.  We have a significant amount of testing between now and the start of the 2022 season to ensure we show up in Daytona poised to run up front.”

The two Supras will be adorned by familiar colors, with CMR Roofing and Construction being the main sponsor on one, and zignyl on the other. Forbush Performance is looking forward to the new challenge with different competitors in the IMSA GS field.

“Forbush Performance may be new to the IMSA paddocks but I have been very fortunate to surround myself with an experienced, highly respected team that has brought us up to speed quickly and I expect that to show in the results,” said Matt Forbush.

Forbush Performance is also proud to announce that Pro driver Tom Long will be joining the team as the gold driver in the CMR Supra and will be serving as a driving coach in the Forbush Performance program for 2022.  As an experienced and respected driver in the IMSA paddock, Tom will be a valuable asset to fast-track the development of his co-driver and the drivers in the second Supra GT4 car.

“Having Tom committed to the team provides a competitive advantage to the car he will be in on track and the program as a whole” said Matt Forbush.  “On top of his ability to be lightning fast in the car, he has a great repore with our engineers when working through setup, which is particularly critical anytime you have bronze drivers going in the car.  Just as importantly, his expertise as a driving coach is invaluable to our drivers. I am not exactly sure what the driver lineups will look like yet but I do know that the Supra has tremendous potential to be successful with Forbush Performance in 2022.”

“I’m very excited to be joining Forbush Performance in a full-time driving role for next season,” said driver Tom Long. “Having worked with the program this year as the team coach and test driver, the growth and momentum the team has gained over the season has been very exciting and a lot of fun to be a part of.  I think the Supra is a terrific platform for GT4 competition, and I’m looking forward to working with the team to continue developing the program into a race winning caliber effort.  There’s a lot of hard work ahead, but I know the guys are up for the task.”

Tom Long will be making his debut with the team in the Toyota Supra GT4 car in the final race of the IMSA 2021 season at Road Atlanta with Forbush Performance. He will be joined by Luke Rumburg for the Michelin Pilot Sport Challenge race ahead of the staple season-ending endurance race at Petit Le Mans in November. This will be the first real test against who will be their competitors for next season and gives Tom and Luke an opportunity to gain valuable experience and data ahead of the 2022 season.
